Guitarist Marc Rosenberg, flutist Izumi Miyahara and violist Yvonne Smith will perform chamber music by Italian composer Francisco Molino and Czech composer Wenzel Thomas Matiegka.
Led by composer, bassist and tubist Thomas Helton, Boomtown Brass Band is Houston’s only group dedicated to performing the classic jazz of 1920s New Orleans and Chicago. The group, comprising veterans of Houston’s jazz community, is committed to learning and performing the authentic style of such great early jazz forefathers as Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Jelly Roll Morton and Eddie Lang. This performance is part of the Houston Methodist I CARE ‘Recharge’ Celebration.
Pianist Geoffrey Loff performs piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart including the charming No. 23 and the sublime No. 24, both arranged for string quartet and piano by the soloist.
Described by Toronto Concert Reviews as “a mature artist and a budding superstar”, Leslie Ashworth is a Canadian violinist and composer currently pursuing her Masters of Music at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
A graduate from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, vocalist Ermelinda Cuellar is joined by guitarist Greg Petito and bassist Anthony Caceres to perform a program of traditional jazz songs from the swing, blues and bossa novasongbooks. Pianist Mary Katherine Schober has built a versatile career as a musician, private teacher, and adjunct instructor in the Houston area. She will share a varied program of soothing and inspiring music.
